In Europe's late 1920s Stanley Crawford is a celebrated magician who in private holds decidedly materialist and atheistic views. A friend asks for his help concerning the case of a young American woman who claims to be a psychic and holds séances in the houses of the rich, thereby relieving them of their money. A surprise awaits Stanley when he travels to the Côte d'Azur to meet and, by his broad knowledge of magic tricks and illusions, expose this supposed fraud: Not only seem the talents of the girl to be real, she also possesses a very special kind of charm, which will challenge his stiff and condescending English ways.
