After Bilbo and the Dwarves accidently have awakened the dragon Smaugh, they have to watch from Lonely Mountain as it destroys Laketown. Gandalf manages to escape from the Nazguls' fortress with help from the Elves, who send Sauron into exile later on. Meanwhile, the orcish hordes of Azog march towards Erebor to finally defeat Thorin, sending Bolg for reinforcements. The Laketown survivors join forces with Elves to claim Erebor's treasure, while Dain's Dwarven army arrives to aid his cousin Thorin. As forces prepare for war, Radagast arrives with the Eagles --- and the Battle of the Five Armies begins.
