Riggan Thomson is an actor who has played the iconic superhero Birdman over 20 years ago. Decades later, he is directing his debut on Broadway. Throughout the film Riggan battles the voice of the Birdman and the many troubles encountered during the preview showings. With an eccentric cast of characters including a pretentious actor and Riggan's fresh out of rehab daughter, he is able to confront his demons and put on a show no one will forget.
